I absolutely love this dish... which is saying a lot for someone who is not crazy about tahini! Leslie thank you so much for sharing this delicious and nutritious recipe. I would definitely recommend the cumin and maybe more lemon juice, and I added avocado slices which worked out well.

So happy you loved it :) Yes, I agree! I often add a bit more lemon juice and salt. Avocado sounds like a great addition—I can see how it would work well. 😋

I like piyaz, and your presentation of it on tahini sauce is a fantastic idea!

Thank so much Faye! I can’t say it’s my idea 😅 It’s a pretty popular Turkish dish, especially in Southern Turkey, but I’m so glad it appeals to you! Have you made other piyaz dishes? There is another one with olive oil instead of tahini.

Yes, I've made the one with olive oil and had it several times in Turkiye and cooked by Turkish cooks in the U.S. Looking forward to trying it with tahini.

Do you have any recipes using anything rather than regular flour?

Leslie Bulut's avatar

Hi Micky! This recipe (Antalya piyazı) is a bean dish that does not use any flour.

In terms of bread or desserts, I don’t have any that are completely gluten free, but I have this cake that has a majority of almond flour along with a bit of all-purpose flour. https://marveleslie.substack.com/p/the-golden-ratio-for-a-birthday-cake?utm_source=direct&r=4tg2kp&utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=post%20viewer

For this cake ^ I’m pretty sure you could substitute a 1:1 GF baking flour blend and it would work, although I have not tried it.
